Statement of Faith

Statement of Faith

1. We believe the Old and New Testaments, inerrant as originally given and preserved in the Received Text and the Hebrew Masoretic Text, were verbally inspired by God and are a complete revelation of His will for the salvation of men. Translations based on these texts are also  the Word of God. These texts constitute the divine and only rule of Christian faith and practice and its supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct.  Error begins when we add to, remove from, or otherwise change God's Word. (Deut 4:2; Prov 30:6, Rev 22:18).

"All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work." 2 Timothy 3:14-17

2. We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

3. We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father as our High Priest and Advocate (Romans 8:34; Hebrews 7:25).

4. We believe salvation is only available by accepting the free gift of grace which God offers to everyone, not by works but solely through the sacrificial death (as our representative and substitute) of the Lord Jesus Christ, the incarnate Son of God. (1John 2:2; 1 Peter 2:24; Ephesians 2:8-9; Galatians 2:16, 3:8; Titus 3:5; Romans 10:9-10; Acts 16:31; Hebrews 9:22).  God draws all sinners toward repentance (John 12:32). The sinner is free to either resist or submit to the Gospel and drawing of God (Acts 7:51, Rom. 2:4-5). To receive salvation we repent (Acts 3:19; 1 John 1:9) & by faith receive Jesus Christ as our Savior. Acts 2:38 "..that which is born of the Spirit is spirit" John 3:3-7.  When a sinner places his faith in Christ of his own free will, God cleanses him of sin, and makes him a child of God (John 1:11-12, John 5:24). Every person who is born of the Spirit is an integral part of the church as a member of the body of believers.

Ephesians 1:13 ' in whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise'.

We believe there is no regeneration for anyone until he has believed in Jesus Christ as his Savior. (John 1:12-13; Titus 3:5; John 20:31; Acts 16:31; John 5:40). The Bible clearly teaches that Christians whom stand in the true grace of God, will depart from iniquity (Romans 6:14, Titus 2:11-12), will walk in the Spirit and follow the teachings of the Word of God.

5. We believe in the Person and work of the Holy Spirit, who convicts mankind of sin (John 16:8), and takes up residence in the born again believer to sanctify, teach, guide, equip them & intercede for them, to be disciples of Jesus Christ. Always in accordance with the written Word of God, that He inspired.

It is the will of God that each believer should be filled with the Holy Spirit and be sanctified wholly, being separated from sin and the world and fully dedicated to the will of God, thereby receiving power for holy living and effective service. This is a progressive experience wrought in the life of the believer subsequent to conversion.

6. We believe that baptism by immersion follows Christ’s example, symbolizing death, burial and resurrection to new life in Christ. It serves as a public testimony of faith and act of obedience after accepting Christ as personal Savior and Lord. The Lord’s Supper is an act of obedience and a testimony of faith. Self examination should precede participation in the Lord’s supper. Luke 22:19; Matthew 3:13-17; Matthew 26:26-30; Acts 16:30-33; Romans 6:3-5; Colossians 2:12

A person by strength of will power alone cannot forsake sin and please God. Only through an intervention of God's grace can a person overcome sin and become part of the Kingdom of God. - See more at: http://www.nicevilleumc.org/about/statement-faith.html#sthash.UWq706Tz.dpuf
7. We believe that the spiritual unity of believers is in the Lord Jesus (John 1:12) a “common salvation" & that unity is by the Holy Spirit of God. True unity is not man made.

"..endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit...one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all , who is above all, and through all, and in you all." Ephesians 4:1-7 .
(John 1:12)

8. We believe in our Lord Jesus appearing to caught up /rapture the saints, both living and dead, and in His personal, future return to this earth in power and glory to rule a thousand years.

We are Spirit Filled Christians attempting to follow Christ daily, we are not perfect, and are grateful for God's mercies every day.  Lamen. 3:23.  Jesus Christ alone is our righteousness and all glory goes to Him.
